A business organisation with a social heart

As a creative person, steeped in social action, a chamber of commerce Council is, perhaps, not where those who’ve known me over the years might have expected me to land as 2026 gets underway. However, Drogheda and District Chamber of Commerce is no ordinary business interest group.

At over a 130 years old it is, for starters, a major part of Drogheda’s heritage. And what seems to be a key factor in its longevity and continued relevance is its willingness and ability to embrace change. I’m representing EurAV European Audio Visual CLG – the non-profit community media organisation that I run in the centre of Drogheda town – and I’m not the only community-oriented member of the Council. Vice president Jasmine Mathew is an active member of Hands4Unity, a cultural organisation that provides support for migrant women. Education is represented as is Ireland’s diverse social landscape. And this year’s president, Miriam Simon is a tried and trusted business leader who looks undaunted by the weight of responsibility that heading up an organisation that is nothing less than one of the local community’s pillars puts upon her shoulders.
Last year, we had the Chamber’s Hubert Murray in our EurAV studio, being interviewed by Jasmine Mathew. It was a useful insight into this long established facet of the Drogheda community. You can listen here.
