Content creator club grows from media training course

Late 2025 saw film maker and community TV producer, Declan Cassidy, run a digital media training course for 20 people in Drogheda at the EurAV studio on Fair Street. Funded by Coimisiún na Meán, the training covered everything to presenting in front of camera to the tips and tricks of lighting, sound and filming, along with distribution to festivals, community TV or, most popularly, social media.

“EurAV is the non-profit audio-visual organisation that I run, and that was the context for the project,” explained Declan. “We had 164 applications for the 20 places, so we were able to really make sure that the people we offered them to represented a wide spectrum of Ireland’s social reality. We’d a great mix of age groups, backgrounds and abilities, and I really feel that this made the experience a lot richer for all involved.”

The participants came, mainly, from the Louth/Meath area though some made the weekly journey from Dublin to attend the five sessions and the collaborative nature of the programme formed a tightly knit group.

“Social media, despite its name, is often far from social,” explained Declan. “A lot of content creators are working in isolation. This course had people collaborating and helping each other with their course projects and that sparked an idea that the course might be the start of something more longterm.”

As a result, 2026 sees the formation of ‘Content Creators’. The initiative brings content creators of all sorts – photographers, film makers, social media influencers, graphic artists and the like – together in a hybrid format. There will be a regular ‘in-person’ meet up, but it will be streamed so that those who can’t physically attend can do so virtually.

“Technology and trends are changing so fast that it’s pretty much impossible for any one person to stay on top of things,” explained Declan. “Content Creators is a way for people to share knowledge and support each other. It also means that, for example, an important social media post can be ‘liked’ and ‘shared’ by all the members of the group which will give it a boost with the algorithms, or members might attend screenings of other members films to support in that way.”

Any creatives interested in becoming involved are invited to fill in this form, which will help to define such things as when Content Creators meets and what types of activities it supports.
