When Declan picked the evening of Sunday, December 18 as the time to meet, on Zoom, with the 134 actors who had been shortlisted for roles in his BAI funded short film, “Location, location, location!”, he had no idea that he had set up a tug-of-war between art and football. The group had been split into two meetings, to manage the large number, so the first group stood to miss the first half of the World Cup final, and the second group were being asked to miss the end.
“It’s a testimony to the dedication of the actors that they showed up,” Declan said. “We had a great turn out, and I went through the ins and outs of the project – about how the auditions process will work next month and then the tentative shooting dates in March and April.”
Online auditions are to take place on the weekend of January 21, with numbers expected to be reduced to just two three actors for each role.
“At that point, we’ll do face-to-face auditions to find our cast,” explained Declan. “There was a lot of talent in those two Zoom meetings and, given the unsociable time of the meetings, there was a lot of motivation too. It bodes well for the film!”
