Want to see yourself on a cinema screen while doing your bit for road safety?

The Drogheda Motor Show Dealers are behind the development of a campaign to promote safety on our roads, and two local people are being sought to act in the short videos that are destined to be shown across social media and on the silver screen! Could one of them be you?

Local community media organisation, EurAV, is one of a list of organisations that have come forward to support the campaign, which will highlight dangers around driver fatigue, speeding and lack of seatbelt use. Cars have never been as safe as they are today, but safe driving starts with the person behind the wheel. As chief executive of EurAV, film maker Declan Cassidy is set to direct the filming.

“When I was approached about getting involved in this initiative, I didn’t have to think twice,” says Cassidy. “This might be a fun local production, but the message has the power to save lives.”

Now the production team is looking for two local people to fill the key onscreen roles.

“We don’t need professional actors – though they’re welcome to apply too,” explained Cassidy. “We’re looking a certain look, and the confidence to play the part convincingly. There’ll be a casting process, so anyone who fits the bill will have a chance to show what they can do.”

The two roles are for people aged from mid 20s to pre-retirement age – one male and one female.

“The female role character is confident and responsible. She is capable and calm under pressure,” explained Cassidy. “The male character is more uneasy. He’s acting as though he’s been caught out for not doing something he should have.”

The filming is expected to take no more than half a day, and is due to take place in Drogheda. The two selected participants will each receive €250 as compensation for their part in this important road safety campaign.

Casting will be held in Drogheda over the coming weeks. If you’re interested, simply fill in this short application form: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DroghedaRoadSafety

Supporting the campaign are First Citizen Finance, Drogheda & District Chamber, the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), Louth County Council, An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
